Mission and Vision

Mission

Pioneering innovative AI solutions to the pressing mental health epidemic via an interdisciplinary, cross-sector approach, with a focus on critically underserved communities worldwide.

Vision

Establishing the first global laboratory of its kind to advance mental health care among underserved communities worldwide. More than just a technology lab, this is a powerful collaboration among leaders in mental health, health equity, AI, and community engagement. The Center will serve as a nexus, bringing community organizations, industry leaders, health researchers, and community members into one collaborative space that aims to ensure equitable, globally beneficial solutions in this emerging and rapidly changing field.

About GCAIMH

Elevating Healthcare Solutions

The Global Center for AI, Society, and Mental Health (GCAIMH) aims to leverage artificial intelligence to address mental health challenges, particularly in underserved communities worldwide.

The Center was founded by David Christini, SUNY Downstate's Senior VP for Research, Kesh Kesavadas, UAlbany's VP for Research & Economic Development, and Pradeep Kakkattil, CEO of High Innovation Exchange, and former Director of the UNAIDS Office of Innovation and Partnership.

The Center operates under Downstate's SVPR Office and UAlbany's Institute for Social and Health Equity. The Center was established through seed funding through SUNY's statewide STRIVE Artificial Intelligence Strategic Plan, reinforcing GCAIMH’s role in establishing SUNY and New York State as leaders in AI research, education, and workforce development.
